ZakERP Strengths
A complete ERP built around how offices in Bangladesh actually run. HR, attendance, payroll, finance, supply chain and POS in one place, with chat and To-Do inside the ERP so the talk about the work never drifts into a separate app. And all of it stands on technology the world's banks trust.
What ZakERP does
Where ZakERP goes deeper than many foreign ERPs
The big global ERPs (SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Odoo) are built for many countries at once, so the everyday detail of an office in Bangladesh has to be bolted on through add-ons or local partners. In ZakERP it was built in from the start.
Chat and To-Do inside the ERP
One button in the corner of every page. Open it for conversations with colleagues, groups, files, and your own and your team's task list.
- Group chat, replies, reactions, @mentions, voice notes, files
- Voice and video calls, screen sharing
- Kanban To-Do, reminders, and "Pin = Assign"
- Every Chat and To-Do feature below
Attendance: from fingerprint to GPS
- Punches arrive from ZK fingerprint devices on their own
- Geofenced mobile punches: inside the office boundary only, with the GPS accuracy checked too
- No network? The punch is kept and sent later
- AI face matching: is the person who punched really that employee?
- Rosters, shifts, work patterns and work calendars
- Traffic-light colours: on time green, late yellow, early leave orange, both red
Payroll by Bangladesh's rules
- DA (daily allowance), loans, advances, PF, AIT (tax deducted at source)
- Salary calculated straight from attendance, including the days of a new joiner
- Pay-run approval, payslips, and automatic posting to the general ledger
- Every employee sees their own payslip
The office lunch
Who eats on which day, orders, delivery, bills, cash settlement, feedback on the food, how much was wasted, how each vendor is performing. All inside the ERP.
QR ID cards, verified with one scan
Employee ID cards print straight from the ERP. The guard at the gate scans the QR with a phone and gets one of three answers: green (a current employee), amber (a genuine card, but the holder has left), or red (a guest pass, or a card that is not ours). The QR carries a secret-key signature, so a home-made fake is caught on the spot.
Who holds which office asset (Handover)
Which laptop, phone or other item went to whom, whether they confirmed receiving it, and when it is due back. When someone leaves, exit clearance checks it all in one place.
Chat and To-Do: a complete communication system inside the ERP
As easy as WhatsApp, but wired into the office's work. No separate app, no separate login, no separate bill. It opens from the button in the corner of every page.
Messaging
- One-to-one or in groups
- Replies, and replies to replies; reactions; forwarding; @mentions
- Edit your own message for up to 15 minutes; others see the change live, marked "edited"
- Delete for everyone (unsend), or just for yourself
- Sent, Delivered and Read ticks; who is typing; who is online and when they were last seen
Voice calls, video calls, screen sharing
- One-to-one voice and video calls straight from the browser, nothing to install
- Share your screen during a call, then switch back to the camera
- The caller's photo shows while it rings
- An unanswered call leaves one "Missed call" message in the conversation, so you call back from right there
- A Calls tab lists every call
Files and voice notes
- Send images and documents; images preview inside the chat
- Drag a file into a chat, or drop it straight onto someone's name, and it is sent
- Voice notes: record, listen back, then send
Organise now, send later
- Pins, favourites (bookmarks), and important people kept at the top of the list
- Send later: write a message, set the time, and it goes out by itself (the Schedules tab)
- Search through past messages
Commands in the search box
- Type
/and a menu of commands appears /attendance(or/att): your attendance this month, in colour, and anyone else's you are allowed to see, by name/leave(or/lv): this year's leave balance, what is taken and what is awaiting a decision//searches everyone's messages- Department heads can pass an attendance card on with its Send button; and there are keyboard shortcuts
To-Do and task monitoring
- Your own tasks, with priority and due dates
- A list or a Kanban board: To-do, Doing, Done, and Reply
- Reply: a manager sends finished work back with feedback and a new date, and the loop runs until it is right
- Reminders the day before, on the day, and when overdue; finishing a task clears its old reminders
- A discussion on every task, and counts of what is open and what is running late
Pin = Assign
Someone messages you about a piece of work. Pin the message and it becomes a task on its own, which you then monitor: what stage it is at, whether it is done. If the message carried a file, so does the task.
Control and security
- Administrators decide who may message whom
- Push notifications on the phone, even with the ERP closed
- Every conversation sits behind the ERP's login, and the data stays on your own server, not with an outside chat company
The platform: what lets ZakERP grow fast
How quickly an ERP can meet a new need depends on its foundation. ZakERP's foundation is built the way the well-known ERPs build theirs.
Metadata engine and Customisation Studio
A new screen, report or approval usually needs no programming: one short definition file, or point-and-click in the Studio, and it is live without stopping the ERP. The full explanation, with a real report file: Why ZakERP, part 2.
Approval chains, driven by a table
Leave, requisitions, POs, vouchers, expense claims: who approves at which level is written in a table. Three levels today, four tomorrow, without changing code. Every decision keeps its history.
A history of every change
Who changed which field, when, and from what to what is kept on the record's System Notes tab, the way NetSuite's System Notes work.
Home pages and dashboards by role
The MD, managers, HR, admins and every employee each land on a home page built for their work. 6 dashboards, 27 charts, and everyone can arrange their own home.
Like an app on the phone
An installable web app (PWA): an icon on the phone's home screen, push notifications, and it copes with a weak network. No app store needed.
AI already at work
Give it a new employee's CV as a PDF and AI fills the employee form in advance; a person checks it and saves. On mobile punches, AI matches the face. More AI work fits on the same foundation.
The core of a full ERP
Finance
Chart of accounts, vouchers, AP and AR, bank reconciliation, recurring vouchers, financial year and period close, year-end, budget against actual, VAT and AIT registers. Trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow.
Supply chain
Requisition to PO, then GRN and three-way match (PO, GRN and bill agree). Stock ledger, transfers between warehouses, serials, ABC analysis, stock ageing, expiry watch.
POS (retail sales)
A fast selling screen, a customer-facing display, price rules, bundles, layaway, quotes, returns (RMA), serials, and a stock feed for the shop's own website.
HR
A full employee profile (family, education, experience, training, documents), leave rules and balances, earned-leave accrual, exit clearance, org structure, and leave approval kept in step with NetSuite.
A comparison at a glance
| Topic | ZakERP | Big foreign ERPs, usually |
|---|---|---|
| Work chat, calls and To-Do | Built in | Separate Teams or Slack (built into Odoo) |
| Fingerprint devices, geofence, AI face check | Built in | Separate HCM product or add-on |
| Bangladesh payroll (DA, PF, AIT) | Core product | A local partner's localisation |
| Office meal management | Included | Usually absent |
| QR-verifiable ID cards | Included | A separate system |
| Building screens without code | Studio and metadata engine | Available (NetSuite, Odoo Studio), often at extra cost |
| On your own server, with your own data | Yes | Some are cloud-only (NetSuite, Workday) |
The comparison is a general picture, not a claim about every edition of every ERP.
The technology ZakERP stands on
An ERP holds your company's accounts, salaries, stock and staff records, year after year. So choosing its technology is a matter of trust, not fashion. Every part of ZakERP was chosen with one question in mind: will this still run safely, quickly and reliably ten years from now?
The four questions on your mind
Before buying an ERP, a careful buyer asks these four questions more than they read feature lists. Every technology below answers one of them.
Why Java
ZakERP is written in the language that runs the core systems of the world's banks, stock exchanges, insurers and large e-commerce companies.
"Write Once, Run Anywhere"
Java's founding promise: write it once, run it anywhere. The same ZakERP runs on a Windows server, a Linux server, or in the cloud.
Bank-grade safety
Java has no raw memory pointers, so a large class of the mistakes that crash or expose software written in other languages is closed off at the root. Every piece of work runs inside Java's own safety boundary. That is why Java is one of the most trusted languages in banking and finance.
Automatic garbage collection
Java finds and frees memory that is no longer needed on its own, so the slow build-up that makes a system heavier over time (a memory leak) is far less likely.
Multithreading: many jobs at once
At the same moment someone is running payroll, someone is printing a report, someone is chatting, and punches are arriving from the fingerprint reader. Java handles each on its own thread, side by side. ZakERP's 13 automatic jobs run in the background this way without holding anyone up.
A vast ecosystem
Reports, Excel, PDF, QR codes, email, database connections: Java has a proven library for each, used by thousands of companies for years. ZakERP picked the best of them (see below).
Developers are easy to find
Java is taught at almost every university in Bangladesh, and the country's pool of Java developers is large. Each new Java release keeps running the old code.
Java 21 LTS: modern and long-lived
ZakERP runs on Java 21, the latest Long-Term Support release. While it runs, Java makes the most-used parts faster by itself (the JIT compiler).
Why JasperReports
An ERP shows its real value in its reports: vouchers, payslips, leave forms, monthly attendance, the papers that go to the bank. ZakERP's reports are built with JasperReports, the most widely used report engine in the Java world.
Pixel-perfect printing
Every line, logo, signature and box comes out on paper exactly as designed. Your company logo and the report's own QR code are placed automatically.
One report, many formats
JasperReports can turn the same report into PDF, Excel (XLS/XLSX), Word (DOCX), HTML, CSV, text and XML. In ZakERP every report comes out as PDF or Excel with one click; the other formats sit in the same engine, ready to switch on when needed.
Data from almost anywhere
It reads almost every database, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, and can also build reports from JSON, XML or plain Java objects.
Complex reports, solved with sub-reports
One report can sit inside another: all the lines inside a voucher, or separate tables for family, education and experience inside an employee profile. Layered information stays tidy on one page.
Designed visually
Reports are laid out by drag and drop in Jaspersoft Studio, without code. Even your company's own pre-printed forms can be reproduced exactly.
A big community, easy Java integration
Used around the world for nearly two decades, with a large developer community and plenty of examples. It plugs straight into Java, so inside ZakERP it is not a separate system but part of the ERP itself.
Every other technology, and why
| Technology | What it does in ZakERP | Why it was chosen |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft SQL Server | Holds all the data | Microsoft's enterprise database, trusted by banks and large companies worldwide. Every transaction either completes in full or not at all (ACID), so a power cut never leaves the accounts half-written. The ERP takes its own backup every week. |
| Apache Tomcat 10.1 and Jakarta EE | Serves the ERP on the web | One of the most widely used Java web servers, light and proven over many years. Built to an international standard (Jakarta EE), so there is no dependence on any one company. |
| WebSocket and Web Push | Chat, calls and notifications | Messages arrive instantly without refreshing the page, and notifications reach the phone even when the ERP is closed. |
| PWA (Progressive Web App) | The ERP as a phone app | An icon on the phone's home screen without an app store. It copes with a weak network, and there are no separate Android and iPhone apps to build and update. |
| HikariCP | Manages database connections | Known as the fastest connection pool in Java. Connections to the database stay quick and steady even with many people working at once. |
| bcrypt | Stores passwords | Passwords are never kept as readable text, only as a one-way hash. Not even an administrator can see anyone's password, and guessing attacks are deliberately slowed right down. |
| Layered security | Guards every request | A login check on every page, CSRF protection (stops another website acting in your name), lockout after repeated wrong passwords, a session limit per user, HTTPS, and role-based permission on every menu. |
| Apache POI | Excel export | Every saved search and dashboard downloads as a real Excel file (.xlsx), not a half-way CSV, ready for accountants to work in directly. |
| OpenPDF | PDFs of ID cards and calendars | Light, fast PDF generation, used to print employee ID cards and leave calendars. |
| ZXing | QR codes | The QR library Google started, widely used around the world. It draws the QR codes on ID cards and reports that a phone can scan to tell genuine from fake. |
| Jakarta Mail | Security alerts, password-reset codes and reports sent by email, through Java's standard mail system. | |
| Gemini AI (replaceable) | Reads CVs, matches faces | Google's modern AI. ZakERP's AI layer is built so that a better or cheaper AI can be swapped in with one setting. You are never locked in to one AI company. |
| SLF4J and Logback | System logs | When something goes wrong, the cause is found quickly. The business-critical actions are also written separately to the database. |
| NetSuite connection | Talks to another ERP | ZakERP already exchanges data directly with Oracle NetSuite, so it can work alongside any other system you already have. |
Who holds your data, what the cost really looks like over time, what happens when something goes wrong, and whether ZakERP fits your company at all (including who it is not for) are all answered candidly on one page.
